Who we are
Scanneo is published by Codexneo (“we”, “us”). You can reach us at codexneo9@gmail.com. For the purposes of data-protection law, we are the controller of the limited data described in this policy.
Your documents
Scanneo opens PDF, Word, Excel, CSV, PowerPoint, text and image files directly on your device. Viewing, scanning, text recognition (OCR), merging, splitting, compressing, locking, unlocking, signing and converting all run locally. Your documents, scans, the text inside them, their names and their locations are never uploaded to us or to any third party.
The document scanner and the text-recognition model are provided by Google Play services (ML Kit) and process images on your device. Scans and exported files are saved to the Documents and Pictures folders on your phone, where only you and apps you permit can reach them.
What we collect
The app uses Google Firebase for two purposes: understanding crashes, and counting how features are used. This is the full list.
| Data | Why | Linked to you? |
|---|---|---|
| Crash reports: the error and stack trace, app version, device model, Android version, memory class | Find and fix crashes (Firebase Crashlytics) | No name or email. Tied to a random app-installation identifier |
| Anonymous usage counts such as which screen or tool was opened, and rounded timings and sizes | Improve features and performance (Firebase Analytics) | No. Tied to a random app-instance identifier only |
| A remote on/off switch value for features | Turn features on or off without an app update (Firebase Remote Config) | No |
We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, precise or approximate location, photos, audio, health or financial information, advertising ID, file contents, file names, page text or search terms.
Usage and crash reporting is switched on by default and can be turned off at any time (see Your choices).
Permissions the app asks for
| Permission | What it is for |
|---|---|
| All files access / storage (optional) | Lets the Files tab list the documents already on your phone (PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and text files from Downloads, WhatsApp and other apps). Scanneo uses it to find document files and to open, rename, share or delete the ones you choose. File names and contents are never uploaded. You can decline and pick folders yourself instead. On Android 11 and newer this is the “All files access” setting; on older versions it is the storage permission. |
| Internet and network state | Used only by Firebase to send the crash and usage data described above and to fetch the remote switch. Scanneo needs no internet connection to open or edit documents. |
The camera used for scanning is operated by Google Play services’ document scanner, not by Scanneo.
Service providers
Crash and usage data is processed by Google LLC and its affiliates as our service provider through Firebase. Google’s handling of that data is described in the Firebase privacy information and the Google Privacy Policy. Data may be processed in countries other than your own. We do not sell or rent data, and we share it with no one else.
Your choices
- Turn off reporting: in the app, open Settings → Privacy → Share usage data and switch it off. Crash and usage collection stops.
- Revoke file access: in Android Settings → Apps → Scanneo → Permissions (or
- Remove folder access: in Android Settings → Apps → Scanneo → Permissions (older Android), or clear the folders in the app. ldquo; All files access
- Remove folder access: in Android Settings → Apps → Scanneo → Permissions (older Android), or clear the folders in the app. rdquo; on Android 11 and newer).
- Remove everything: uninstalling Scanneo deletes everything the app stored on your device. Files you saved to Documents or Pictures stay until you delete them.
Retention
Because we hold no account or document data, there is nothing for us to retain beyond the crash and usage data above. Firebase keeps that data for a limited period under its standard retention settings and then deletes it automatically.
Security
Data sent to Firebase travels over encrypted (HTTPS) connections. Documents stay in your device’s own storage, protected by Android’s app sandbox and your screen lock. Password-protected PDFs you create use standard PDF encryption.
Children
Scanneo is a general-purpose tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided data, contact us and we will help to remove it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example the EEA, UK, India or California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the use of personal data about you, and to object to its processing. Because the data we hold is tied only to a random identifier and not to you personally, we may not be able to find it without your help, but we will do what we reasonably can. Email codexneo9@gmail.com and we will reply within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data-protection authority.
Ads and purchases
This version of Scanneo shows no ads and contains no advertising SDK. If we add ads or paid features in the future, we will update this policy and the app’s Play Store disclosures before they go live. Any purchase would be handled by Google Play; we would not see or store your payment details.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. The effective date at the top shows the latest version, and the same text is available inside the app under Settings → Privacy → Privacy policy. Material changes will be announced in the app or on this page.
